Luck

How to create your own big breaks.

“I’m a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.” – Thomas Jefferson

If you are ever going to become the kind of person who achieves huge amounts of success, you must learn to focus only on what you can control. You can’t control the weather. You can’t control the thoughts of other people. You can’t control the overall economy. However you can control your thoughts, your expectations and your luck. The thing that most unsuccessful people refer to as “luck” is simply nothing more than the intersection of preparation and opportunity. If you prepare yourself and you are constantly doing the little things right, you will find yourself getting opportunities that never would have happened before. You must be prepared for when these opportunities occur. However, there is a 3 part system you must to create these opportunities for yourself daily.

  • Part 1: Contact people of influence daily
  • Part 2: Build a massive database of humans that you have met
  • Part 3: Take more shots than anyone else in the game.

Part 1: Contact people of influence daily

You must quickly grasp the truth that “it’s not what you know, but who you know.” You must begin systematically reaching out to the people of influence that need to know. If you don’t reach out to these people you will never know them. There is a very strong possibility that billionaires, investors, celebrities and successful entrepreneurs are not going to wake up tomorrow with your SPECIFIC NAME in their heads and a HUGE MOTIVATION to mentor you to back it up.

You must reach out to the people who you need to know to get where you want to go. Every morning you must commit to reaching out to these people. EVERY DAY you must do this. Are you going to actually do this or are you going to “try to remember?” You must commit to doing this everyday or you will fail and it will be your fault.

Part 2: Build a massive database of humans that you have met

Because you are in that elite group of people that actually do things, instead of just intending to do things, soon you are going to find yourself going out to eat with hotel owners, billionaires, multi-millionaires, celebrities, Mayors and other people of influence. This is great, but merely getting in front of them is not enough.

When you meet these people you must be very intentional about building rapport with them, finding out where they want to go with their lives and how you can help them get there in a way that benefits you. Once you determine this information, you must save them into your database so that you can quickly find their information when you need it. You must determine how it is that you will help this person of influence to turn their goals into reality in a way that benefits both of you. You then must take ACTION. Pretty soon you will find yourself in partnership with people of influence. Pretty soon you will find yourself hanging out with the same people. You will soon be sitting at the same tables. You will find yourself wearing the same clothes and doing the same things. You will find yourself succeeding.

My friend, birds of a feather flock together. Don’t hang out with a bunch of penguins that are incapable of flying. Hang around eagles soaring through the sky with the greatest of ease. Have them teach you how, and pretty soon you too will become an eagle. Once you meet these eagles, you must save their NAME, NUMBER, E-MAIL ADDRESS, OCCUPATION, and THEIR GOALS into your database that you will maintain contact with these leaders.

Part 3: Take more shots than anyone else in the game.

You will never be “lucky enough” to hit a game-winning shot if you never actually shoot the ball. In fact your probability of ever hitting a game-winning shot will increase exponentially just by shooting the ball exponentially more. In fact Michael Jordan, who was one of the best professional basketball players of all time, is famous for saying “I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”

Thus, the question you need to ask yourself is this. Are you shooting enough? If you can’t handle rejection and losing from time to time you will never succeed. This is some SERIOUS STUFF HERE. If you can’t deal with missing shots in front of a sell out crowd, then you don’t have what it takes to achieve greatest, thus you must go to work for someone else as soon as possible or you will be very poor.
